ocupa el suelo del acuario, generalmente escondido entre rocas o en cuevas. Al atardecer aumenta su actividad. Se entretiene comiendo caracoles y buscando alimento que caiga al fondo. No obstante es común verlo en la superficie en busca del alimento para peces que flota.
Pez alargado de aspecto prehistorico no ha cambiadoo casi en nada desde que se orogino,presenta dos apendices en forma de patitas que lo ayudan a deplazarse en su etapa joven presenta manchas amarillas que desaparecen en la adultez.
